Protected: How to layer active skincare
Exactly how to apply our products and in what order
The rule is simple – you should apply products thinnest to thickest, except when using Retinol. The gentle activity of Retinol depends on direct contact with the skin so you need to apply any Retinol products first (after cleansing), then follow with other products. Read on for some specific tips and the order in which you should apply your skincare products!
2: eye treatment
3: targeted serum
4: targeted treatment
5: multi-action moisturiser
step 1: cleanse
Choose a cleanser depending on your skin type.
We recommend using our Heartfelt cream cleanser in the morning for a gentle cleanse and a foaming cleanser – Lionheart or Braveheart – at night for a deeper cleanse, to remove makeup, excess oil and impurities.
step 2: eye treatment
Apply an eye treatment before any other skincare products. You don’t want your serums or treatments to penetrate into this area before your eye cream can work it’s magic.
If you’re using both Eye Do and Eye Dream, layer in order of thinnest (Eye Do) to thickest (Eye Dream).
step 3: TARGETED SERUM
Serums contain the fundamental actives & antioxidants for support and maintenance of the skin. Vitamins A, B and C are the foundation of a supportive skin routine.
Serums have a smaller molecular structure so therefore penetrate into the skin (dermis) deeper and support skin cells before they’ve come to the surface. Serums tend to rapidly absorb and leave no residue or feeling behind.
WHAT ORDER DO I APPLY MY SERUMS IN?
Thinnest to thickest, except when using Retinol. The gentle activity of Retinol depends on direct contact with the skin so you need to apply your Retinol serum first, then follow with other serums (Glam Squad) if you wish to use more than one at a time.
RETINOL + VITAMIN C CONTRADICTIONS:
Vitamin C and Retinol work optimally in different pH environments and should not be combined. To ensure the full efficacy of both ingredients and products, we recommend applying Vitamin C (Next Level) in the morning and Retinol (Dream Team) at night.
step 4: TARGETED treatment
Our face treatments are advanced treatment options for people with specific skin problems or concerns to target. Not everyone requires a targeted treatment.
You can apply the targeted treatment all over the face or just to specific areas of concern.
BRIGHT STAR TIP:
Vitamin C (Bright Star) and Retinol work optimally in different pH environments and should not be combined. If you’re using our Bright Star Treatment and our Dream Team Retinol Serum, we recommend using Bright Star in the morning only and Dream Team at night.
QUIET ACHIEVER TIP:
Combining AHA’s (Quiet Achiever) with Retinol (Dream Team) can cause excessive dryness, redness and irritation. If you’re using both of these products, we recommend using Quiet Achiever in the morning only and Dream Team at night.
step 5: multi-action moisturiser
For advanced support, hydration and skin barrier protection, and used to “seal” your active face treatments in steps three and four. Moisturiser protects the outer layer of your skin (what we can see and feel).
We recommend applying moisturiser to your entire face, neck, decolletage, and massage in upward strokes.
step 6: sunscreen
AM only: The last *and most important* step for your AM routine is sunscreen. As our SPF is a physical zinc formula, we recommend that you warm up the product in the palms of your hands first then smooth onto your entire face, neck, decolletage and anywhere that will be exposed to the sun.
Remember to re-apply every 4-6 hours depending on your sun exposure and daily activities (swimming, exercising etc).
