How To Build a Skincare Regimen: 7 Steps for Beginners
What is a skincare regimen?
A skincare regimen refers to the products that are used as part of an AM/PM daily care ritual, and the order in which they are applied.
Some people like to keep things simple and just cleanse and moisturise, while others use eight or more products.

If you're a skincare novice, or perhaps just new to Liberty Belle Rx, it can be difficult to know where to start.
The first thing to know is that an ideal regimen should be tailored to your skin type and concerns.
There's no point grabbing the latest fad product if it's not suited to your skin.
Think about your skin type. Are you oily, dry, combination, normal, or sensitive?
Second, consider what you would like to address with active skincare. If you have multiple concerns about redness, ageing, and congestion, for example, you will require more products than someone who is interested in simple skin health maintenance.

Cleansing is the first step in any optimal regimen, and choosing the right cleanser will depend on your skin type.
For normal/sensitive/dry skin, we recommend Heartfelt Gentle Rose Cream Cleanser. This is the gentlest cleanser in our range with a subtle rose scent, perfect for dry or sensitive skin types who still want a thorough cleanse.
For normal/combination skin, we recommend Lionheart Citrus Cleansing Emulsion. This emulsifying cleanser effortlessly melts away grime and impurities, leaving behind soft skin and a delicate citrus scent.
For combination/oily skin, we recommend Braveheart Deep Clean Botanical Foaming Gel Cleanser. This gel-to-foam cleanser gives your pores a deep clean, fantastic for removing excess oil and grimy build-up.
All our cleansers can be used as make-up removers. Simply double cleanse at the end of the day.
2. Wear SPF every day
No matter your age or skin type, wearing SPF is non-negotiable.
No-one knows better than Dr Chris Moss how essential a good SPF is for Australians. As a surgeon, he has removed hundreds of skin cancers and is a passionate advocate of the use of sun protection to preserve the health and integrity of our skin.
LBRx Superstar sunscreen is SPF 50+ and uses zinc oxide as its active ingredient, a physical blocker that scatters harmful UV rays as they hit the skin. This formulation is safe for adults and kids alike, perfect for everyday use, and formulated according to the clinical expertise of Dr Chris Moss.
Superstar also contains hydrating Coconut Oil and antioxidant-rich Vitamin E, which gives it a moisturising effect that also allows it to work as a primer.
To use, apply at the end of your regimen, but before any make-up. Warm the product by warming it between your fingertips and pat onto the face, neck, and décolletage until you have even coverage.
3. Pick your moisturiser
A quality moisturiser is the keystone in any optimal regimen. The best moisturisers don’t just hydrate the skin – they also protect, nourish, stimulate, and even have anti-ageing benefits.
LBRx carries three moisturisers that are formulated to address the needs of different concerns and skin types.
For normal/dry/mature skin, we recommend Star Quality. This ultra-luxe moisturiser provides intense hydration and repair. It is also packed with anti-ageing actives.
For normal/combination skin we recommend Superhero, our famous all-rounder that provides lightweight hydration and antioxidant protection while shielding the skin from the damaging effects of blue light.
For red/sensitive/oily skin, we recommend Power Broker. This lightweight, gentle cream has a matte finish and is both soothing and replenishing.
Our moisturisers should be used AM and PM for best results.
We also carry a luxe, nourishing face oil that's suitable for all skin types, Godsend. You can use this face oil on top of or instead of your moisturiser.
4. Choose your serum
Once you’ve got your cleanser, moisturiser, and SPF, choosing a serum (or serums) is the next step. Serums contain sophisticated ingredients for targeted improvement, and although the science can get complicated, don’t worry - choosing one of our serums is as easy as Vitamin A, B, C!
Vitamin A – Dream Team 0.625 and Dream Team Advanced 1.25
Best for: Anti-ageing and concerns about skin tone, texture, and pore size.
Vitamin A - also known as Retinol, increases the rate of skin regeneration, helping to refine the complexion and reduce the depth and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Our PM-only Dream Team serums contain potent yet gentle Encapsulated Retinol, that is considered a gold standard in anti-ageing cosmeceuticals.
Vitamin B & Hyaluronic Acid – Glam Squad
Best for: Dry or dehydrated skin and general skin health.
Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) promotes repair and hydration, while Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) enhances the skin barrier and soothes dry skin. Both hero ingredients are included in our Glam Squad along with an incredible triple blend of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), an intensely hydrating ingredient that helps keep skin plump and healthy.
Vitamin C – Next Level
Best for: Antioxidant protection, brightening, and general skin health.
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage and aids in collagen production. Our Next Level contains a unique triple blend of Stabilised Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Ascorbyl Glucoside). It is the ideal AM serum to provide brightening and anti-ageing benefits.
If more than one serum matches your skin needs, remember that all three can be used together in a regimen! Simply apply Next Level before Glam Squad in the AM and Glam Squad before Dream Team in the PM.
5. Choose products formulated for the eye area
Ageing around the eye area, including fine lines, wrinkles, crow's feet, and dark circles, are common concerns for many people.
The eyes are one of the first things people notice about us, so it makes sense to want to protect and rejuvenate this area to avoid looking tired or older than we feel.
If crow's feet are a concern for you, make sure you buy products that are specially formulated to address the eye area.
The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate than other parts of the face. It requires special attention for best results and to avoid making things worse.

Apply your eye creams as the first step after cleansing. Gently pat half a pump around the eye area, making sure not to tug or pull at the skin. Avoid the thin skin under the eyes when applying your other products.
6. Consider face treatment options
A face treatment is a great option for those with particular skin concerns who want a more targeted regimen. We carry three face treatments:
Quiet Achiever is our leave-on exfoliant. It contains botanical AHAs and a Soy Amino Complex for gentle removal of dead skin to improve skin health, tone, and texture.
Bright Star is our rich, moisturising face treatment cream that provides Vitamin C antioxidant protection and brightening to address the appearance of pigmentation and dullness.
Game Changer is our pore-refining and mattifying gel that's especially suited to those with oily or congested skin. It helps clarify and refine the skin while preventing excess shine. It also works as a fantastic make-up primer.
Multiple face treatments can be used in the same regimen. Simply apply Quiet Achiever first, followed by Game Changer and Bright Star.
7. Be consistent!
No matter your regimen, make sure you commit to it. Cleanse and apply your products every day after you wake up and before you go to bed.
Whether you use two products or ten, the key to achieving results with active skincare is consistency.
Your skin renews itself every 28 days on average. This is called a skin cycle. It typically takes 2-3 skin cycles for significant results to appear.
