FAQ
Here are some common questions our patients ask during their consultation.
How does the laser remove the veins?
The energy from the laser is absorbed by the red pigment (haemoglobin) in the blood vessel which causes it to coagulate. It will either clear or carbonise (and turn grey or purple) and the unsightly vessel will then be reabsorbed by the body.
How many treatments do I need?
One to two treatments are required, however this can vary depending on the person’s skin type as well as the duration, number, colour and size of the vessels being treated. Your experienced clinician will be able to advise what treatment is required for your individual needs.
What will it feel like?
It depends on the type of laser required, but generally a series of laser pulses are applied to the treated area. Overall, there is minimal discomfort, save for a momentary, warm sharp feeling on the treated area. The area is cooled before and after each laser pulse so that any discomfort is minimised and temporary.
