What causes wrinkles?

Years of facial expressions like frowning and squinting cause the development of dynamic wrinkles including frown lines, forehead lines and crows' feet around the eyes. When excessive, these can appear unattractive and can make us look tired, angry or aged.

What is the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers?

Dermal filler injections are used to fill wrinkles and furrows in the skin. Are the anti-wrinkle injections painful?

The injections are similar to tiny pin pricks and only small amounts of product are injected. They are done quickly but precisely and they feel somewhat like a small insect bite. If required you may have prior preparation with a skin numbing cream, although this is rarely requested in our practice.

When will I see the results?

You will first begin to notice a change after about day 3 and the effect develops over the next 7 days, with the peak effect seen after about 10 days. The effect usually lasts for 3 to 4 months.

Repeat treatments, if desired, are usually recommended after 4 months, however many are happy with treatments twice a year. Are there any side effects?

Side effects are uncommon and may include some redness, small match-head-size bruises or mild swelling, which resolve quickly but can be easily covered with makeup. It is best to avoid alcohol and fish oils for 24 hours before and after the treatment to reduce the likelihood of these side effects.
