ELIZABETH Hanley went in search of a new face to find a better job.

And $20,000, four hours of surgery and a couple of weeks’ healing later, she achieved her goal.

She is one of an increasing number of middle-aged people who are undergoing cosmetic surgery to improve their prospects in the workplace.

Mrs. Hanley now believes she looks 15 years younger. “I am 55 and I didn’t want to look that way,” she said.

“It was affecting how I felt about myself. And people used to discriminate against me because of the way I looked.”

Mrs. Hanley said she wanted a better job after working in an office for a freight company for years.

“So I decided to get a new face, so I could get a new job,” she said.

“I sent my resignation in before the surgery because I had my mind set on getting a new job.

“My husband is 14 years younger and I was sick of looking like his mother. So he got me the surgery as a present.”

And it has worked.

Mrs. Hanley now has a front-of-house hostess job in a 4 ½ star Queensland resort that pays more than $200 a week extra than her previous job.

“I got the job because I look younger and feel fantastic,” she said. “It is the best investment ever.

“It is much better than renovating the kitchen.”

Mrs. Hanley and her husband, Mick, travelled to Melbourne from Queensland in February for the surgery.

Dr. Chris Moss, who performed Mrs. Hanley’s surgery, said the majority of his clients were seeking plastic surgery to improve their prospects.

“Many men and women who have had facial rejuvenation surgery with me, do so to improve their prospects in the workforce or to make a fresh start in their personal life,” he said.

Mrs. Hanley had a full facelift and necklift, upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyes) and a temple lift. She also had Botox injections to her “crow’s feet” and Juvederm to her chin creases.
